Personal Broadband

Interconnectivity and roaming across networks is a proven and profitable business within the Cellular world. Formed less than 20 years ago, the GSMA and its Operator members generate $60 billion a year from roaming from1.6 billion subscribers.

Now, the age of Personal Mobile Broadband is upon us. Wireless technologies are being upgraded and commercialized to enable faster broadband, and device manufacturers and operators are embracing an open architecture approach for the many software developers currently racing to develop mobile content and services for the mass consumer market.

In 2007 there were 155,000 commercial Wi-Fi Hotspots and 233 WiMAX deployments. By 2009 roaming revenues are anticipated to reach $1.6 billion.
